New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the National Capital Region following the heavy rainfall early on Saturday morning, submerging parts of Indhra Gandhi International Airport, News18 reported. The Mahipal flyover nearby was also waterlogged.
The rainfall has reportedly fumed situations in crucial roadways in the national capital, Gurgaon and Noida. Due to waterlogging, buses were stuck in areas like Moti Bagh, RK Puram, Jorbagh and Madhu Vihar.
The southwest monsoon in Delhi may have been erratic, the New18 report says, and it is delayed this season and, 1005.3mm was recorded, the highest rainfall the national capital has received in 11 years. The rainfall has breached the 1000mm mark for the first time since 2010.
The Safdarjung Observatory, the official marker for the city, normally records 648.9mm of rainfall during the monsoon season on average as per MDI data. Between June 1 and September 10, the city receives 586.4mm of rain.
