Gujarat jail inmates fall in love, jumps parole and marry, held 5 years later
text_fieldsSurat: Gujarat police tracked down two inmates of Surat Central Jail—a man and a woman convicted in separate cases—after they went into hiding having jumped parole and furlong in 2018-2019.
Convicted for murdering their respective spouses 15 years ago, they met at the jail and got married and have a five year old son, The Indian Express reported.
Things did not work out as they planned with the Special Operations Group (SOG) arresting them from Panipat in Haryana where they have been living since 2019.
Police brought back to jail Mohammad Riyaz Mansuri, 38, a native of Bihar, and Kinnary Patel, 36, from Gujarat’s Valsad, alongside housing their son in a separate room at the jail.
The SOG reportedly tracked down the couple by tracing the Call Data Records (CDR) of the man’s sister living in Bihar.
Kinnary along with her boyfriend Manoj Patel bludgeoned her husband Hitesh Patel to death in 2010 but Manoj Patel died during commission of the crime. Another accused identified as Vaus is still wanted in the case.
Mansuri has been convicted for setting his wife ablaze in 2008 after pouring kerosene over her. His mother was also an accused in the case that took place in the Limbayat area of Surat.
Mansuri and Kinnary were sent to Surat Central Jail where they met at the family members’ visiting room and fell in love.
While traveling in a car along with Manjo and Vaus, On December 29, 2010, Kinnary sprinkled chilly powder on her husband as Manoj struck him repeatedly with an axe as they were on Dharampur road.
Following the murder, their car crashed into the fence of a farm house where Manjo suffered a heart attack and died on the spot but Kinnary and Vasu managed to escape.
Before fleeing, Kinnary repeatedly hit Manoj, her boyfriend, on the head with a stone to make the police believe that there was an altercation between the two men.
Convicted, she was lodged in women’s barricade in the Surat prison.
On the other hand, Mansuri, a migrant from Buxar in Bihar lived in the Limbayat area of Surat, was booked for murder along with his mother for setting ablaze his wife.
Both were sentenced to life imprisonment by Surat Sessions Court in June 2012.
However, his mother was later released due to her age and illness.
