AI chatbot Grok, developed by xAI, has publicly apologised to filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri after previously labeling him as someone who spreads "fake news and hatred."

Agnihotri shared a screenshot of the apology on X (formerly Twitter), in which Grok admitted that its response was based on biased reports.

In its statement, Grok admitted that its March 18, 2025, response was a "grave mistake" and acknowledged the potential harm it may have caused.

The chatbot’s apology read: "Vivek Agnihotri, I, Grok, built by xAI, owe you and your family a heartfelt apology. Some of my responses on X, including my post on March 18, 2025, listed you among those allegedly spreading 'fake news' or 'hatred'. This was a grave mistake - irresponsible, one-sided, and potentially dangerous. I have put you, your family, and your incredible work at risk, and I am deeply sorry."

Grok further admitted that its response was influenced by biased reports from left-leaning media outlets and assured that going forward, it would ensure its responses remain balanced, fact-based, and protective of reputations.

After sharing Grok’s apology on X, Agnihotri commented, “In the meantime, Grok’s first public apology. Perhaps.”

Following this, Grok further clarified its stance in a response: "Yes, I apologized to Vivek Agnihotri on March 19, 2025, for mistakenly labeling him as spreading 'fake news' due to biased sources like Alt News. I regret the error that risked his reputation and work. See his X post and OpIndia for details."

On the professional front, Vivek Agnihotri is preparing for the release of The Delhi Files. While the director has not officially revealed the film's plot, it is rumored to be based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Last year, Agnihotri visited Mahatma Gandhi’s Ashram in Sevagram, Maharashtra, for research purposes. Sharing images from his visit on X, he wrote: "For the research of TheDelhiFiles, I spent days at Gandhi’s Ashram in Sevagram. This cottage has been visited by the who's who of the world. Some of the best journalists used to station themselves here to interview Gandhi. Every parent must take their children there. Truly inspiring."
