Google strikes out Modi; Motera Stadium continues to be 'Sardar Patel Stadium'
text_fieldsAhmedabad: As Modi's move to rename Gujarat's Motera stadium to his own receives global backlash, Google retained the stadium's old name on the India-England test series's live updates being held at the stadium. The results display the match's location as Sardar Patel Stadium instead of the new title of 'Narendra Modi stadium'.
This has created a spree of trolls and mockery on social media. The stadium, with a capacity of 1,10,000 seats, is the largest cricket field in the world. Earlier named after Sardar Vallabhai Patel, it has now been renamed after the Prime Minister. The change was announced by President Ram Nath Kovind. Earlier, the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi was renamed after former minister late Arun Jaitley.
Following the backlash, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani came forth, stating that solely the cricket stadium has been renamed as Narendra Modi Stadium while the sports complex as a whole continues to be in the name of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
