Ghaziabad police officer warned after using ‘device’ to label Bihar man a Bangladeshi immigrant
text_fieldsGhaziabad: A station house officer in Ghaziabad was reprimanded by senior officials after videos surfaced on social media showing him allegedly tying a device to a man and claiming it had identified him as a Bangladeshi national.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Indirapuram, Abhishek Srivastava said the SHO of Kaushambi police station had been warned and cautioned against adopting such methods in the future.
However, Srivastava said SHO Ajay Sharma was attempting to apply psychological pressure on the man and his daughter to elicit the truth. He added that Sharma had been admonished for resorting to inappropriate tactics.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on December 23 when the Kaushambi SHO was conducting a search operation in shanties in the Kaushambi area and questioned a man and his daughter about their native place.
The girl told the police that they were from Bihar’s Araria district and showed documents on her mobile phone. She also said the family had been living in the shanties since 1986.
Despite this, the SHO allegedly accused them of lying and claimed they were from Bangladesh. He then reportedly tied a device around the waist of the girl’s father and said the machine had identified them as Bangladeshi nationals, the sources said.
