Fugitives Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya sing together at party in London
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Fugitives Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya were seen singing together at a party hosted by the former in London, where the duo sang Frank Sinatra’s classic, “I Did It My Way”. A video of the same was shared by Modi himself on Instagram, and he was even audacious in captioning it: “Hope this video doesn’t break the internet. Controversial for sure. But that’s what I do best.”
Lalit Modi, the former Indian Premier League (IPL), was once credited for introducing the revolutionary cricketing league in India. He is accused of bid rigging, accepting kickbacks, money laundering and violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) amounting to hundreds of crores. He was suspended by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), and shortly before the Enforcement Directorate initiated an investigation against him, he fled to the United Kingdom and has been staying there since 2010.
Meanwhile, Vijay Mallya is wanted in India for defaulting loans worth Rs 9,000 crores and is charged with fraud and money laundering. He was arrested in London in 2017 and is facing extradition trials at India’s request, though out on bail.
Both Mallya and Modi denied wrongdoing and maintained that the allegations against them were politically motivated.
The latest video of the duo dancing went viral on social media, sparking curiosity and criticism alike, writes India Today. The party was reportedly attended by around 310 guests including friends and family. Super Star cricketer and former team member of the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Chris Gayle, was among the party attendees, according to reports. Gayle, the “Universal Bose”, also shared a picture on Instagram featuring himself with Modi and Mallya.
Sharing the singing video, Modi wrote, “Had an amazing night with 310 friends and family... Thank you to one and all who attended this evening and made it one of the most special nights for me. Hope this video doesn’t break the internet. Controversial for sure. But that’s what I do best.”
