Kochi: Police have arrested four Hindu Aikya Vedi activists for threatening to remove a sticker stating that halal food was available at a bakery in Kerala's Kurumassery, Ernakulam. Hindu Aikyavedi Parakkadavu Panchayat Samiti President Arun Aravind, General Secretary Dhanesh Prabhakaran, Sujay and Lenin were arrested. The members arrived at the bakery and personally handed over a letter with their demand to the owner on December 28.

It was pasted that halal products are available in front of a bakery called Mody owned by Joy in Kurumassery. It all started when Arun arrived at the shop demanding non-halal food to which the owners replied that the shop was selling only 'halal' products.

Seeing this, the Hindu Aikya Vedi activists handed over a letter on the organization's letter pad to the owner of the bakery in Parakkadavu area, which started operations two weeks ago. The notice argues that segregation of food in the name of any religion is untouchable and criminal.

The letter stated that the organisation would boycott and protest if the sticker was not removed within seven days of receiving the letter. The shop owner removed the sticker to avoid controversy.

Meanwhile, police intervened in the matter as the incident caught the attention of social media. The case was registered on the basis of the statement of the shop owner. An investigation is underway into whether more people were involved in the incident.
