Former special DGP of Tamil Nadu convicted of sexually harassing woman officer
text_fieldsChennai: The villupuram court in Tamil Nadu has sentenced a senior police officer to three years imprisonment in sexual harassment case alongside imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 on Friday.
Former Special DGP of Tamil Nadu Rajesh Das was accused of harassing a woman IPS officer on February 21, 2021 when they were providing security to the then Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, The News Minute reported.
The court handed a fine of Rs.500 to the then Chengalpattu SP D Kannan for attempting to prevent the woman IPS officer from lodging complaint.
The woman IPS officer alleged that Rajesh Das had sexually harassed her in his vehicle as they were taking care of security of CM during his election campaign.
D Kannan was accused of trying to prevent woman officer from filing a complaint at the behest of Rajesh Das.
The CB-CID charged Rajesh Das for outraging the modesty of a woman under Indian Pena Code and the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act, according to TNM.
Alongside expressing shock at the allegations against former special DGP and interference of SP, the court said ‘it would monitor the probe’.
The Madras High Court dismissed a plea filed by Rajesh Das seeking to cross-examine the woman officer and also recalling the complaint.
