‘Finally the truth is out’: PM Modi praises film ‘The Sabarmati Report’
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the film 'The Sabarmati Report', which is based on the tragic Godhra train burning incident of February 27, 2002, in Gujarat. The film depicts the horrific event in which 59 people lost their lives when the Sabarmati Express was set on fire near Godhra railway station.
In a post shared on social media platform X, PM Modi endorsed a cinegoer's praise for the film. The user highlighted how the film presents the truth of the incident in a way that is accessible to the general public. The Prime Minister agreed with the sentiment, emphasizing that fake narratives can only persist for so long and that the truth will eventually come to light.
PM Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at the time of the incident, further expressed approval of Alok Bhatt’s post, which called the film a must-watch. Bhatt praised the film for shedding light on one of the most shameful events in recent history and applauded the filmmakers for handling the subject with sensitivity and dignity. Bhatt also reflected on how the tragedy was exploited by vested interest groups to tarnish the image of a leader, with false narratives being propagated for political gain. He added that the film allows the 59 innocent victims, who perished that fateful morning, to speak for themselves.
The film 'The Sabarmati Report' seeks to portray the events of the tragic morning aboard the Sabarmati Express. The Central Board of Film Certification has given the film a U/A certificate, with some cuts to violent scenes and muting of certain words. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film stars Vikrant Massey, Ridhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna. It has a runtime of 126.51 minutes.
The Godhra train burning incident remains a significant and painful chapter in India's history, with 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from Ayodhya being killed in the fire inside the Sabarmati Express.
