Gorakhpur: In an extraordinary act of defiance, two women in Gorakhpur have left their abusive alcoholic husbands and married each other. Kavita and Gunja alias Bablu, tied the knot in a ceremony held at the Shiva Temple, also known as Choti Kashi, in Deoria on Thursday evening.

The two women had met on Instagram and were drawn together by their shared experiences of domestic violence and the torment they suffered at the hands of their alcoholic spouses. They found solace in each other and decided to choose a life of peace and love.

During the ceremony at the temple, Gunja took on the role of the groom, applying sindoor (vermillion) to Kavita, exchanging garlands, and completing the traditional seven pheras.

“We were tormented by our husbands’ drinking and abusive behavior. This pushed us to seek a life of peace and love. Now, we have chosen to live together as a couple in Gorakhpur and start anew, working to sustain ourselves,” Gunja explained.

The two women now plan to rent a room together and begin their journey as a married couple, free from the pain and trauma they endured in their past marriages.

Temple priest Uma Shankar Pandey described the ceremony, saying the women quietly performed the rituals, purchasing garlands and sindoor before leaving the temple.
