FASTag annual toll pass 2025 launches August 15: price, registration, benefits, and activation process
text_fieldsThe government will roll out the FASTag Annual Toll Pass 2025 for private non-commercial vehicles starting Friday, August 15, aiming to make long-distance travel on National Highways (NHs) faster, smoother, and more cost-effective.
Until now, the annual pass system has only been available for cars, vans, and other non-commercial vehicles.
Introduced in 2014 under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) framework, the FASTag system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable automatic, cashless toll payments, helping to ease congestion at fee plazas.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently told the Rajya Sabha that the move is expected to save vehicle owners money. "Besides reducing congestion at fee plazas, the actual savings for vehicle owners and the government’s revenue growth will depend on several factors, including actual usage of vehicles and fee plaza crossings made in a year," he said.
As per the official gazette notification, the annual pass is available to owners of non-commercial vehicles with a valid, functional FASTag for ₹3,000. It is valid for one year or 200 toll plaza crossings—whichever comes first—regardless of the toll fee at each crossing.
Applicants must have:
- Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
- Passport-size photograph of the owner
- KYC documents as per ownership category
- Valid ID and address proof
The Annual Pass will not be issued if the FASTag is registered only with a chassis number; the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) must be updated first.
FASTag can be purchased both offline and online — via e-commerce platforms or bank portals like Paytm Payments Bank, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank.
For the Annual Pass, activation must be done through the Rajmargyatra mobile app or the NHAI website. After verifying vehicle eligibility, users can pay ₹3,000 for the 2025–26 base year. Activation usually takes place within two hours of payment confirmation.
The Annual Pass automatically reverts to a standard FASTag after one year or 200 trips, whichever is earlier. To continue the benefits, users must re-activate it for another cycle.
Usage and restrictions
- Valid at NH and National Expressway toll plazas only
- Not applicable to State Highway tolls, expressways under state/local management, or parking facilities
- Available only for non-commercial cars, jeeps, and vans (as per the VAHAN database)
- Non-transferable - only valid for the registered vehicle
- FASTag must be affixed to the windshield
For queries or complaints, the 1033 helpline — operated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Indian Highways Management Company Ltd. (IHMCL) — is available for FASTag users.
The Annual Pass is optional — drivers who choose not to opt in can continue to use their FASTag as usual, paying tolls per trip.
