Education should be seen as spiritual act: Salman Khurshid
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Former Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has said that education should be seen as a spiritual act like visiting a mosque or a shrine. He added that if a small portion of the wealth is set aside for educational projects, it will bring about a huge change in the country.
Khurshid was inaugurating the distribution of scholarships for higher studies for the academic year 2025-26 under the Vision - 2026 project of the Human Welfare Foundation at the India Islamic Cultural Centre. In all 150 scholarships, based on merit and financial need, were distributed.
The Foundation has been making major initiatives in education in the most backward regions of northern and eastern India by establishing schools and hospitals. Along with such steps, the body also tries to reduce school drop-out rates by persuading uneducated parents of children to send them to school at the right age.
Salman Khurshid said that we are going through difficult times and initiatives like Vision-2026 are essential to fill the gap that arises in the implementation of government schemes and supplement government’s efforts.
Since such activities are needed by both the government and the public, the government also should have a supportive stance towards them. The former minister, who is also a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court and an accomplished author added that ultimately the laws of the country should be helpful to the people.
The Chief Guest at the event was Prof. (Dr) Mohammad Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, who discussed the options for higher studies offered by the university and offered support for HWF’s education empowerment activities.
Arifali T, Chairman of Vision 2026, the flagship project of HWF, delivered the inaugural address.
Human Welfare Trust Secretary Malik Mohtasim Khan and Professor Dr. Muhammad Farooq spoke on the occasion. Human Welfare Foundation Gen. Secretary M. Sajid delivered the introductory speech and CEO P.K. Naufal made the concluding remarks. Foundation Education Department Manager Shariq Ansar welcomed the gathering.
