New Delhi: Following her disastrous defeat against Kishori Lal Sharma of Congress in Amethi by over one and a half lakh votes, former Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani vacated her official bungalow more than one month the declaration of results. His official residence was at 28 Tughlaq Crescent, Delhi.

Despite a disastrous loss, she vacated her official residence only after a month. Former ministers and MPs usually vacate their government residences within days of defeat. At most, everyone will move out within a month of forming the new government.

Smriti, who was floating in the confidence she gathered from becoming the shining star of BJP, destroyed Congress' Rahul Gandhi in 2019 from Amethi but faced severe setbacks this year.

As a incumbent Union minister, she as well as her party confident like any thing that she will win Amethi again. She had mocked Rahul that he moved to Wayanad because he was afraid to contest against her and he was afraid of defeat. However, Smriti Irani knelt down in front of a lesser-known Congress candidate.

Even though she lost, the hope was there that she would be inducted into the cabinet through the Rajya Sabha, but the hopes did not bear fruit. Smriti, touted by the BJP as its main female face, was not included in Narendra Modi's third cabinet.

However, after the results came out, Smriti thanked those who stood by her through thick and thin.

"Such is life... A decade of my life going from one village to another, building lives, nurturing hope & aspirations, working on infrastructure - roads, naali, khadanja, bypass, medical college and more. To those who stood by me through loss and victory, I am forever grateful. To those celebrating today, congratulations. And to those asking, 'How's the josh?' I say- it's still high, Sir," Smriti wrote on X.
