Delhi teen stabbed to death over love affair; girl’s brother among 5 minors arrested

New Delhi: A teenager was allegedly lured to a public park via social media and stabbed to death by a group of minors in northwest Delhi’s Rohini area, police said on Saturday. The killing is said to be linked to the victim’s relationship with the sister of one of the attackers. Five juveniles, including the girl’s minor brother, have been apprehended in connection with the crime.
The incident took place on January 15 at Japanese Park, where the victim, identified as Divyanshu (18), was attacked in broad daylight. Police said the murder was allegedly orchestrated by the 17-year-old brother of the girl, who opposed the relationship and conspired to eliminate Divyanshu.
A PCR call reporting the stabbing was received around 3 pm, following which police rushed to the scene and found Divyanshu injured and bleeding. He was immediately taken to BSA Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
During the investigation, eyewitness accounts and technical evidence revealed that the accused juvenile had allegedly used a friend’s social media account under a fake name to contact Divyanshu and lure him to the park. On the day of the incident, he reportedly arrived at the park with his associates and attacked the victim with a knife, resulting in his death.
All those involved were found to be juveniles and were apprehended within 24 hours of the case being registered. Police recovered the knife used in the crime, along with the victim’s mobile phone, wristwatch, and a metallic ‘kada’ from the possession of the accused.
Officials said the juveniles belonged to the same locality and studied in the same school. Further investigation into the case is ongoing, police added.
