Delhi poll: Congress guarantees Rs 8,500 per month to jobless youth
text_fieldsNew Delhi: In a bold move ahead of the February 5 Assembly elections, the Delhi Congress on Sunday unveiled its "Yuva Udan Yojana," promising Rs 8,500 per month for educated, jobless youth for one year if the party comes to power.
The announcement came a day before a major rally by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in Seelampur, East Delhi, and is aimed at appealing to the city's educated but unemployed youth.
Former Union Minister Sachin Pilot and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav emphasized that the party is committed to addressing the issues plaguing Delhi, such as "breathlessness, lawlessness, and joblessness."
Pilot criticized the central and Delhi governments for failing to support the educated, jobless youth, pointing to the IT revolution and economic reforms introduced by the governments of Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh, which created job opportunities.
“Rahul Gandhi, Khargeji, and the entire Congress leadership are committed to supporting educated, jobless youth. We guarantee Rs 8,500 per month for one year, along with efforts to secure their jobs through training and placement in companies,” Pilot said.
He further stated, “In Delhi, the politics has been reduced to media management and ego clashes. Congress offers the only constructive politics, focusing on real development issues.” He added that the Congress is determined to win the Assembly elections and not just participate.
Yadav explained that the Rs 8,500 monthly financial assistance will be provided by the state government for one year, and the party will also work to place the youth in jobs based on their skill sets. The initiative will also include efforts to enhance skills and promote self-employment among jobless youth.
Referring to the past decade of AAP rule, Yadav claimed that Delhi, once a world-class capital, has now deteriorated, facing issues of air pollution, lawlessness, and widespread unemployment.
NSUI President Varun Chaudhary, who is seen as a youth icon, was also present at the event.
The Congress party aims to address the growing frustration among Delhi’s youth, offering financial support and skill development opportunities as part of their broader vision for a better, more prosperous capital.
