Delhi HC seeks Jamia’s response on PhD admission denial despite selection
text_fieldsThe Delhi High Court has directed Jamia Millia Islamia to respond to a petition by PhD aspirant Salman Saleem, who was denied admission to the 2025–26 session despite appearing on the final selection list at the Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK-MCRC).
Justice Jasmeet Singh issued notice to the university, noting the issues warranted judicial scrutiny, and listed the matter for February 16, 2026. Saleem had qualified under the UGC-NET exempted category, with his name published on December 19, 2025, post-document verification.
Jamia rejected his admission citing UGC-NET exemption eligibility issues. Saleem argued the denial resulted from university delays, not his fault, and pointed out that Jamia’s PhD Ordinance lacks a cut-off for NET certificate validity while violating Ordinance 6 (VI) reservation norms by not disclosing category-wise seats.
His counsel, Kaif Hasan, told Maktoob the plea seeks admission based on valid UGC-NET credentials, awaiting Jamia’s reply within ten days. Filed January 14 under Article 226, the writ also alleges transparency lapses in seat allocation.
