Delhi HC grants police protection to converted UP woman

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court ordered the Delhi Police to provide the necessary protection for a 29-year-old woman of Uttar Pradesh who was being threatened and harassed by the UP police, certain media and vigilante groups.
According to her petition, She had said that the mentioned groups were hunting her since she converted to Islam.
The vacation bench of Justice C Hari Shankar directed the police to take the required steps to protect her life until the case is taken up by the regular bench.
The court said that the vacation bench is not judging the correctness of the woman's allegation at the moment, and what is appropriate is that a regular bench should take the matter.
In her plea, the woman had said that she approached the court for herself and her family's safety and protection of her privacy. She told the court through her plea that she resides in Delhi but originally from UP's Shajahanpur.
After she converted to Islam, she and her family are being targeted through social media with malicious content about her, which she wished to be stopped.
Her petition also stated that she was informed on June 26 that her father was taken into UP Police' custody, and they are coming for her to Delhi. They want her to file a complaint about forced conversion, but she reiterates that her conversion was out of her own free will.
The woman also pleaded before the court that she does not wish to be taken away from the Delhi HC's jurisdiction by force or coercion or by any other means by the agencies of the state or any other person.
