New Delhi: The Delhi government on Sunday imposed a strict ban on the direct sale of LPG cylinders from godowns, warning of tough action against any violations.

In an official statement, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the supply of LPG is being closely monitored to prevent shortages and ensure compliance with norms. She urged residents not to visit gas agencies or storage points or gather in crowds, assuring that booked cylinders are being delivered to homes within the stipulated time.

The statement noted that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have instructed distributors that any direct sale from storage points is illegal. To improve supply, particularly for migrant workers, the government has expanded the availability of 5-kg LPG cylinders, which can now be purchased from gas agencies on showing a valid ID, without requiring address verification. Additionally, 11 help desks have been set up at select HPCL outlets to guide consumers on nearby distributors.

On April 4, Delhi recorded 1,14,679 LPG bookings and delivered 1,31,335 cylinders. The average delivery time for domestic LPG currently stands at 4.24 days.

A dedicated control room has been established to monitor hoarding and black marketing, with helplines 011-23-37-9836 and 838-382-4659. The Delhi Police have raided 17 locations, while the Food and Supplies Department inspected 76 gas agencies and storage sites.

"LPG supply in Delhi is fully stable and under control," the Chief Minister said, urging residents to remain calm, avoid rumours, and rely on the delivery system.
