Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's praise of opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari for leading the fight against the Mamata Banerjee-led government in the West Bengal Assembly with a 'kingpin of all things illegal' remark directed at Adhikari.
At a rally in the Birbhum district, Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of corruption and called on the people to give the BJP more than 35 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in order to make Narendra Modi prime minister again. He also claimed that if the BJP wins 35 out of the state's 42 Lok Sabha seats, the TMC will be finished before the 2025 Assembly elections.
The Home Minister then raised the issue of violence, infiltration, and cow smuggling in the state, claiming that voting his party to power in the state was the only way to check these crimes.
In a lengthy rebuttal, the Trinamool Congress refuted Shah's claim that the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was leading the fight against alleged corruption in the government, citing Adhikari's involvement in various controversies, including the Saradha scam and recruitment irregularities.
The Trinamool Congress called Adhikari the kingpin of all things illegal in Bengal and highlighted the magnitude of his crimes, including his appearance in the Narada sting operation video taking money. Despite these allegations, the party accused Adhikari of being actively involved in the BJP's 'washing machine' politics.
The Trinamool Congress criticized Home Minister Amit Shah for his silence on BJP workers brandishing weapons during Ram Navami processions, and for remaining silent on the party's alleged links with Sumit Shaw, who was arrested by Howrah Police.
The party also accused Shah of revealing a conspiracy against the democratically elected Bengal government by claiming to "finish" it. The TMC stated that Shah's comments were concerning, as he is the Home Minister and has acknowledged a conspiracy against the state.
