Chief Justice of India NV Ramana

New Delhi: Chief of Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana has released the software Fast and Secured Transmission of Electronic Records (FASTER) on Thursday. Ramana said that the new software would enable smooth communication and quick transmission of court orders, reducing the time that prisons and authorities have to spend waiting, The Indian Express reported.

CJI said that the software would ensure privacy and security also. He said that the idea for the software rose after a newspaper advertisement came to the court's notice. The court took up a suo motu case following the ad, brought Justices AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud, Heman Gupta and others to the matter. The orders passed by Supreme Court and High Courts have to be sent safely without the involvement of third parties, CJI said.

The CJI led SC bench had taken suo motu cognisance of the matter of delayed release of prisoners even after the grant of bail. The bench had directed the SC secretary-general to submit a proposal with recommendations for the modalities to implement FASTER.

The CJI informed that 73 nodal officers had been fielded at the level of high courts to monitor the implementation of FASTER. For the system, a judicial communication network with 1,887 secure-pathway email IDs has been created, and the exchanges will be restricted to these channels, Ramana said.
