Civilians death: Mehbooba Mufti gets forbidden to visit the site
text_fieldsNew Delhi: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, was put under house arrest on Monday, blocking her from visiting Surankote, where three civilians were found dead days ago, The Indian Express reported.
The dead were found in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
There was militant ambush a day before on two Army vehicles in J&K’s Poonch district. Eight civilians were picked by the security forces from there, and the dead three, whose bodies were found in the night in the Topa Pir area, were included.
The ambush on the military vehicle on Thursday evening caused the death of four soldiers.
Mufti had written on X on Sunday that the “ground reality” punctured the narrative of peace in Jammu and Kashmir. She wrote, “Five jawans martyred in a militant ambush, three innocent civilians tortured to death in custody by Army, many still battling for their lives in hospitals and now a retired SP killed. Innocent people have become collateral damage to maintain the facade of normalcy touted by GOI.”
“Every life in J&K is in peril, and GOI wants to brush everything under the carpet only because the ground reality will puncture their fake narrative,” Mufti added. “How long will this go on before the country wakes up?” she wondered.
On Saturday, she also alleged that the Army detained some locals and tortured the bodies of some of the detainees found near the encounter location. According to her, 12 people were hospitalised after they suffered torture from the Army.
