Chirag Paswan expresses empathy amid Rohini Acharya’s allegations
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Sunday responded with empathy to the allegations made by Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, saying he has always regarded the family as his own despite political differences.
“I will not comment on this because when a family goes through such difficult circumstances, I can understand the mental state they are in, as I have also been through similar situations,” Chirag told reporters. “We may have had political differences, but I have always considered Lalu ji’s family as my own. I have always regarded Tejashwi, Tej, Misa, Rohini, and others as my brothers and sisters...”
Other leaders reacted sharply to Rohini’s distress. Bihar Minister Madan Sahni accused the RJD of a long-standing pattern of humiliation, while Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said her revelations exposed deep internal conflict within the family. Bihar Women’s Commission Chairperson Apsara Mishra described the situation as “humiliating and painful” for any woman.
BJP spokesperson R.P. Singh linked Rohini’s exit to dynastic politics, calling it a natural outcome of internal clashes.
Rohini’s public outcry began over the weekend with posts on X alleging humiliation, verbal abuse and pressure to quit politics. She claimed a slipper was raised to hit her and accused aides close to Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, of forcing her to step away.
Earlier, she announced she was quitting politics and disowning her family, saying she was taking the blame under pressure.
Rohini, who donated a kidney to her father in 2022 and campaigned actively in recent elections, has now become the centre of attention as her departure highlights turmoil within the RJD’s first family. The controversy comes as the party struggles with its worst electoral performance.
