New Delhi: Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala got convicted by Delhi's Rose Avenue Court in a disproportionate assets case on Saturday, Asian News International reported.

The court convicted Chautala in a case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court of Special Judge Vikas Dhull said that the arguments on quantum punishment would be heard on May 26, 2022.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Chautala on March 26, 2010, holding him responsible for the alleged amassing of assets worth 6.09 crore, which is not in proportion to his legitimate income from 1993 to 2006. The case was filed based on a complaint by Haryana Congress

In the case, the CBI had filed a charge sheet against Mr Chautala on March 26, 2010, and held him responsible for allegedly amassing assets worth ₹ 6.09 crore, much disproportionate to his legitimate income between the years 1993 and 2006. The case was filed on a complaint by Haryana Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala.

Son of sixth Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal, Chautala became Haryana CM from the Indian National Lok Dal. He was released from Tihar Jail in July last year after completing a ten-year term.

He was convicted along with 53 others, including his son Ajay Singh Chautala, and was sentenced to ten years in a case of appointing 3,206 junior basic teachers in the state of Haryana from 1999 to 2000. They were charged under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
