Hyderabad: Ambitious of more attention nationally, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao launched Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday at a party conclave in Hyderabad.

Started in 2000, what is so far called Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is now a national party, which the party supremo Rao hopes to catapult him to national politics.

At the conclave, over 280 party executive members, MLAs, and MPs passed a resolution to merge the TRS with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), The Indian Express reported.

KCR will soon expand on his renamed party's future course and roles it will play in national politics.

The renaming of the party was conspicuous with the presence of former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy who is a leader of JD(S).

20 of his party MLAs also attended the ceremony at Telangana Bhavan where KCR launched the party.

Others present include Two MPs belonging to Tamil Nadu's Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Dalit leader Thirumavalavan.

A JD(S) functionary told new agency PTI that the new outfit would be a "conglomeration of various regional parties," that fight the BJP in their respective states.

The leader was further quoted as saying that the idea was to put up united front against the BJP and the various parties included in the move wanted to rise above their differences.

Thirumavalavan tweeted to congratulate Rao for his efforts to turn his attention on the national level. It is to be noted that the VCK is an ally of the DMK, which is in power in Tamil Nadu.

TRS sources said that the party would field candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from several states, the report said.
