Bhopal: A brother and sister were brutally attacked by a mob, allegedly belonging to the Bajrang Dal, in a viral video from Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district. They were mistaken for lovers on Raksha Bandhan, which occurred on August 31.

While the police have registered a case against the men seen in the video, they claimed that there was not enough evidence to prove their affiliation with the right-wing organization, Bajrang Dal, despite the fact that these men are found on social media to have ties with the organization.

The victims, identified as Atul Chaudhary and his sister, were mistaken for lovers, leading to an assault that has since gone viral on social media.

The incident occurred near a chaat-tikiya shop close to a temple on Satai Road. The attackers, three in number, targeted the siblings without any apparent provocation. Atul Chaudhary and his sister, whose names have not been disclosed, subsequently filed a case with the local police.

Charges have been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused.

The viral video of the attack has raised concerns about the alleged involvement of the right-wing Hindu organization, Bajrang Dal.

However, the City Superintendent of Police in Chhatarpur has said that there is no concrete evidence linking the accused to the Bajrang Dal. He emphasized that the complaint filed with the police makes no mention of any association with any organization.

"The accused may have social media ties to the Bajrang Dal, but as of now, there is no information confirming their direct connection with the organization," stated the City Superintendent of Police.

He further asserted that the incident should not be politicized or attributed to any specific political party or group.
