‘Break legs’ of girls who visit ‘non-Hindu’ houses: Pragya Thakur
text_fieldsBhopal: Hindutva leader Pragya Singh Thakur advised Hindu parents to break their daughters’ legs if they visit houses of “non-Hindus”. The former BJP MP from Bhopal said that parents must physically punish their daughters if they act against their wishes, NDTV reported, citing a viral video of Thakur making such problematic statements.
She claimed that daughters who do not follow “values”, do not listen to parents, or respect elders, are ready to run away from home, and guardians must be more vigilant towards girls. Girls who try to run away must be stopped by beating them and scolding them, she said.
Thakur said that parents must strengthen their minds to make their daughters obey them, since those who do not obey the values and do not listen to their parents must be punished.
NDTV quoted the controversial Hindutva right-wing leader from the viral video, "Strengthen your mind, and make it so strong that if our daughter does not obey us, if she goes to a non-Hindu's house, leave no stone unturned in considering breaking her legs. Those who do not obey the values and do not listen to their parents must be punished. If you have to beat your children for their well-being, do not step back. When parents carry out such acts, it is for the good future of their children; they do not let them die by being cut into pieces."
