BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari claims he got death threat from Pakistan
text_fieldsKolkata: Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has claimed that he received a phone call from a person in Pakistan who allegedly threatened to “blow him up.”
Adhikari said the call came on Tuesday, the same day he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. He added that he has already conveyed the details of the threat to the Union Home Ministry.
“Recently, I got a call from Pakistan threatening me,” Adhikari told reporters in Kolkata.
An audio clip linked to the incident has gone viral on social media, in which a man is heard speaking in broken Hindi, saying: “Main Pakistan se bol raha hoon… sambhal ke rehna, warna uda diye jaoge… Bharat mein kitne ud gaye!” (I am calling from Pakistan… be careful, or you will be blown up… many have already been blown up in India).
However, PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the audio clip. Reports suggest that the caller’s mobile number displayed the country code +966, which corresponds to Saudi Arabia, not Pakistan.
Language experts have also raised doubts about the caller’s origin, noting that the accent in the audio does not match Pakistani Urdu-Hindi. Instead, they said, the hesitant tone and speech pattern closely resemble the Hindi spoken by some Bangladeshi migrant workers in Gulf countries.
“This state has become the safest refuge for terrorists,” Adhikari alleged. “There are no blasts here because extremist forces believe this is their safest shelter under Mamata Banerjee. And we are the ones getting threat calls,” he said.
Claiming that similar messages from Bangladesh were “a routine affair,” Adhikari added, “Two days ago, I got a threat call from Pakistan. From Bangladesh, I get those every day.”
The West Bengal government has not yet issued any response to Adhikari’s allegations.
