BJP workers allegedly force Congress leader to wear saree over morphed Modi post
text_fieldsThane: A Congress functionary in Maharashtra’s Thane district was allegedly forced by local BJP workers to wear a saree in public after he shared a morphed photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.
A video of the incident, which took place on Tuesday in the Domibvli area, has since surfaced online.
The 72-year-old Congress leader, identified as Mama alias Prakash Pagare, said he would lodge a complaint against the BJP workers under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to police sources, BJP Kalyan president Nandu Parab and several party workers intercepted Pagare on Manpada Road and draped a saree around him. Defending their actions, Parab said that they made Mama Pagare wear a shalu (an expensive saree) on the street. It was a response to his attempt to defame the prime minister.
Pagare later alleged that BJP workers hurled casteist abuses at him and slapped him during the incident. This mob mentality and attack on my personal freedom will not be tolerated, he said.
Kalyan Congress president Sachin Pote condemned the incident, calling it an “insult to the entire women class” and an uncivilized attack on a senior political leader. He demanded strict action against those responsible.
