New Delhi: The BJP has decided to initiate a breach of privilege motion against the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, over his statement in Parliament that there are Chinese troops present on Indian soil. BJP leader and MP Nishikant Dubey has requested Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla to initiate the motion against Rahul, who went all guns blazing and attacked the BJP-led Centre while replying to the President’s address on Monday.

Rahul’s statements irked the BJP MPs at Lok Sabha, and the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju claimed that he was lying.

Dubey wrote Speaker Birla claiming that Rahul distorted the historical and substantiative facts in his speech. He claimed that the Congress leader attempted to ridicule India, lowering the “prestige of our Republic”, NDTV reported.

In his reply to the President’s address, Rahul said that the Modi government failed to boost the manufacturing sector through the ‘Make in India’ initiative, resulting in the presence of Chinese troops on Indian soil.

Rijiju intervened and claimed that Rahul was peddling a fake narrative. He said that Rahul must be reminded that “frivolous acts and language must not be repeatedly used, which undermine parliamentary standards. He later requested the Speaker to demand proof from Gandhi.

According to what NDTV learned from sources, the breach of privilege motion will be moved unless Rahul provides proof. A breach of privilege notice is a legislative tool that can be invoked against members found misusing any of their rights or misleading the Parliament, NDTV reported.

During his address, Rahul slammed the Centre, further raising the issue of exponential growth of unemployment in the country and added that India handed over production jobs to China. He claimed that the Chinese army was occupying 4,000 sq kilometres of Indian land.
