West Bengal: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the BJP-led union government is against people who are "speaking the truth". She was referring to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate.

She noted that ordinary people are being "tormented" under the BJP rules and several lakhs of people including entrepreneurs have left the country.

Speaking at a programme in Burdwan, she asked: "Is this the way to run a democracy". "Today I saw that a Shiv Sena leader in Maharashtra (Sanjay Rout) has been summoned by the ED. Why will it (BJP) torment ordinary people like this?"

The TMC chief further said the BJP is using central agencies like CBI and the ED against people who are speaking the truth. "BJP is doing whatever it wants to do". This is not the first time Banerjee has suggested the same.

MP Sanjay Raut was summoned by the investigation agency for questioning in a money-laundering probe linked to the re-development of a Mumbai 'chawl' and other related financial transactions involving his wife and friends.

A few days ago, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the BJP is using ED and CBI among other central agencies to destabilise non-BJP governments including Maharashtra. He added that the Centre wants to form its own government and get the numbers for the upcoming presidential election.

Similar attempts were seen in the past to topple governments in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Manipur, said Kharge. "One should understand that this is the game being played by the BJP".

Speaking about the rebellion in Shiv Sena, he said the BJP first took Sena's (rebel) MLAs to Surat and then to Guwahati where BJP governments rule. He added that the Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut wants the rebels to return to Mumbai so that the party can hear their grievances and solve them.
