BJP leader’s son, friends caught on video assaulting toll booth staffer

Vijayapura: A CCTV video allegedly showing the son of BJP leader Vijugouda Patil and his friends assaulting a toll booth staffer on the Vijayapura-Kalaburagi highway has gone viral, prompting police attention.
The incident reportedly took place at Kannoli on Thursday and was captured on surveillance footage. In the video, Samarthgouda Patil and his companions are seen verbally abusing and physically attacking a toll booth employee after being asked to pay the toll, police said.
According to officials, the group was travelling from Vijayapura to Sindagi when they were stopped at the toll plaza. Samarthgouda allegedly responded to the staffer’s request by saying, “Do you know who I am? I am the son of BJP leader Vijugouda Patil.” When the staffer asked, “Which Vijugouda?”, the group allegedly assaulted him.
Other toll booth employees intervened to prevent further escalation. One staffer, identified as Sangappa, sustained injuries and was taken to Sindagi Taluk Hospital for treatment.
A senior police officer confirmed that no formal complaint has been filed by the toll staff so far. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
