New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged on Sunday that Narendra Modi-led BJP is deliberately letting Manipur burn. He said that the chaos in the borders state will serve the party’s divisive politics.

Kharge surfaced with the accusation as fresh violence broke out in the state, which is ruled by the saffron party.

Kharge said that Manipur people will never forgive or forget Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leaving them to fend for themselves and never visiting the state to heal their miseries.

The leader wrote on X, “@narendramodi ji, Under your double engine governments, ‘neither Manipur is one, nor is Manipur Safe’.”

“Since May 2023, it is undergoing unimaginable pain, division and simmering violence, which has destroyed the future of its people.”

“We are saying it with utmost responsibility that it looks that the BJP deliberately wants Manipur to burn, for it serves its hateful, divisive politics,” he said.

The Congress president pointed out that at least 17 people have died since November 7, while new districts have been added to the list of strife-torn areas. Also, Kharge said the chaos is spilling over to bordering states in the northeast.

“You have failed Manipur — a beautiful border state. Even if you visit Manipur in future, people of the state will never forgive or forget that you left them to fend for themselves and never set foot in their state to heal their miseries and find a solution,” the veteran leader said.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, had said that the fresh thread of Manipur violence and related incidents are deeply disturbing. He also demanded the Prime Minister to visit the state and work towards restoring peace there.

Rahul wrote on X, “After more than a year of division and suffering, it was the hope of every Indian that the Central and state governments would make every effort at reconciliation and found a solution.”
