Bharat Bandh on March 28, 29, likely to hit Banking and other services

New Delhi: A few hours from now, the nation is going to face a 48-hour shutdown called by a joint forum of central trade unions.

Two days of Bharat Bandh to be observed on March 28, 29 could affect banking, transport and other services, according to The Indian Express.

All India Bank Employees Association, among others, has thrown its weight behind the nationwide strike protesting against what they said the Central government's policies.

The unions decided at a meeting on March 22 to stall the nation calling out the centre's "anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people and anti-national policies".

The Central government's policies are affecting workers, farmers, and people in general, they say.

The bank unions also protest against the government's plan to privatise public sector banks and the Banking Laws Amendment Bill 2021.

The trade unions stated that workers belonging to roadways, transport and electricity will join the strike alongside those in the railways and defence sector, making a mass mobilisation in support to the move at several hundreds of spots.

Workers from sectors including coal, steel, oil, telecom, postal, income tax, copper and insurance would join the strike, the statement reportedly said.

State Bank of India (SBI) has said that banking services may get affected due to the strike. India's largest bank said that the strike could affect its operations to a limited extent and assured that necessary arrangements were made for normal functioning.
