Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, Surendra, a businessman in Bengaluru set his 25-year-old son, on fire after an argument over settlement of accounts.

The incident happened on April 1 in Valmiki Nagar, Bengaluru.

As per reports, the young man identified as Arpit died in a hospital due to burn injuries.

The crime was brought to light after Surendra's neighbour, an eye witness to the scene, reported it to the police.

A footage, now circulating on Twitter, also shows Arpit running on the street, and he reportedly called out for help saying that he had been set on fire by his father. He appeared to be drenched in some liquid, which the police later said was paint thinner (a spirit-based solvent). Locals immediately came to help, and rushed Arpit to Victoria hospital.

However, he suffered 60 per cent burn injuries and kept fighting for his life for two days. Arpit succumbed during treatment on Thursday morning.

According to investigations, the father and son had recurrent disputes over the past few months regarding finances. Arpit had allegedly not given his father a proper account of funds.

Chamarajpet police have arrested Surendra and are interrogating him for further details based on the complaint filed by his neighbour, Ambarish, who is a lorry driver.

According to reports, the argument began after Arpit, who was manning the shop, failed to give details of ₹ 1.5 crore when the father asked him for account details.
