New Delhi: After reporting bad weather, 22 flights were diverted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi on Saturday, PTI reported.

The flights were diverted between 1500 hours and 1830 hours, the official added.

Of them, 9 flights were diverted to Jaipur, 8 to Lucknow, 2 to Chandigarh, and 1 each to Varanasi, Amritsar and Ahmedabad.

The official said 9 flights of IndiGo, 8 flights of Air India, and 3 flights of Vistara were among those that were diverted.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital handles around 1,300 flight movements daily.

However, residents in the national capital region were relieved from heat after rains accompanied by gusty winds. This comes after weeks of scorching heat. Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate-intensity rain and heavy-intensity rains for isolated places in Delhi and the NCR region. The forecast was for areas including Bahadurgarh, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, and Manesar.

According to IMD, the influence of several weather systems, including an intense Western disturbance, has caused a cyclonic circulation over Iran. This has a trough loft in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies roughly along the coast.

IMD also forecasted high moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea into Northwest India during April 13-15.
