New Delhi: The Central Government has clarified before the Supreme Court that AYUSH practitioners are allowed to prescribe the notified medicines as add-on drug in Covid 19 treatment.

The submission was made in response to an appeal filed by Dr. AKB Sadbhavana Mission School of Homeo Pharmacy against an order of the Kerala High Court, prohibiting the practitioners from prescribing tablets or mixtures as cure for the viral disease.

The affidavit submitted by the Ministry referred to an advisory issued by it in the January where in homeopathy medicine Arsenicum album 30 was recommended as prophylactic medicine against possible Corona virus infections.

The affidavit further referred to its earlier advisories wherein it had said that various other homeopathic medicines like Bryonia alba, Rhus toxico dendron, Belladonna Gelsemium and Eupatorium perfolia tum, which found to effective in treating flu like illnesses, shall be taken in consultation with qualified physicians of respective AYUSH systems for symptom management.

The advisory also states that medicine mentioned for symptom management can also be given as add on to conventional care. It is stipulated that the medicines should be taken in consultation with qualified physicians.
