Aurangabad: Ambedkarites’ massive rally stopped outside RSS office

A large protest led by Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) leader Sujat Ambedkar was halted by police on Friday afternoon outside the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad).

The Jan Aakrosh Morcha, organised in response to police action against two youths, Rahul Makasare and Vijay Wahul, began at Kranti Chowk and was marching towards the RSS office to oppose the organisation’s membership registration drive in local educational institutions.

VBA said the rally was a reaction to a suo motu police action against the two youths, who had objected to the RSS registration campaign near a government engineering college. Ambedkar criticised the police for booking the youths despite the RSS not filing any formal complaint and highlighted that the RSS itself was not a registered organisation. Supporters at the rally carried copies of the Constitution of India and the national flag.

Joined by VBA leaders Siddharth Mokale and Amit Bhuigal, Ambedkar demanded that the RSS produce its registration certificate. “If ideological organisations are expected to register, the RSS should be no exception,” he said.

Sharing his thoughts on X, Ambedkar described the protest as a historic event: “While the protest gathered an overwhelming response, this landmark event marks the first time in independent India that anyone has dared to challenge the RSS right outside their gates.”

He explained that the protesters had intended to hand over three symbolic gifts to the RSS:

A copy of the Constitution of India, urging the RSS to follow and respect its guidelines.

The national flag, to encourage RSS offices to hoist it and to stop observing 15th August as a black day.

The Maharashtra Public Trust Act, to prompt the RSS, an unregistered organisation, to register legally under Indian law.

However, Ambedkar said the RSS members fled before the gifts could be handed over, claiming the office was closed. The city’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) eventually accepted the gifts on their behalf.

“This incident again proves that the RSS continues to harbour hatred toward the Constitution and the national flag. Only the Ambedkarites have the political will to challenge the RSS, and we will do so whatever it takes,” Ambedkar asserted.
