Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday issued a strong warning to Pakistan, saying it must decide “whether they want to be part of geography or history” if it continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India.

Speaking at an interactive session hosted by ‘Uniform Unveiled’ at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi, General Dwivedi was asked how the Indian Army would respond if circumstances similar to those that led to Operation Sindoor emerged again.

“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” the Army chief said.

The remarks came days after India marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 last year following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Under the operation, Indian forces carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan later launched offensives against India, and subsequent Indian counter-operations were also conducted under Operation Sindoor.

The military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours lasted nearly 88 hours before both sides reached an understanding on the evening of May 10.

General Dwivedi’s comments reiterated India’s position on cross-border terrorism and support for militant groups operating against the country.
