Bhopal: At a press conference, Madhya Pradesh State Secretary of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), Syed Javed Akhtar, said that the organisation’s fact-finding team had visited Multai in Betul district following a communal disturbance that occurred on October 9, 2025. The team has since compiled a detailed report based on its findings.

According to Akhtar, what began as a minor motorcycle collision between two individuals on the evening of October 9 was later given a communal angle, triggering violence in the area. The team reportedly observed incidents of assault, damage to private property, attacks on religious sites, and the overturning of shops and carts.

The report noted that local police failed to promptly register an FIR from the victims’ side after the violence, which has contributed to continued fear and insecurity among residents. It further mentioned that several small traders and cart owners from the Muslim community suffered significant losses due to vandalism and looting, with damages estimated between Rs 15,000 and Rs 40,000, Siasat Daily reported.

The fact-finding team made several recommendations to the police and district administration, including securing all available CCTV and video evidence, registering FIRs from the victims immediately, taking impartial action against those responsible, and providing immediate financial relief and protection to affected families. It also called for the incident to be investigated by an independent agency or a senior officer to ensure fairness.

Akhtar emphasised that APCR’s objective was not to take sides but to uncover facts and ensure justice for everyone involved. He said the conduct of the administration and the initial response of the police raised serious concerns that warranted an unbiased inquiry.

He added that the report would be submitted to the state government, the Human Rights Commission, and senior officials to promote transparency and accountability in the judicial process.
