Mumbai: Maharashtra police arrested a hair salon owner in Vasai for allegedly playing songs containing pro-Pakistan slogans via loudspeakers in his shop. A video of the song being played went viral on social media, The Indian Express reported.

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Abdul Rahman Shah, played the song “Kashmir Bangea Pakistan” in his shop on December 31 in the Chinchoti area of Vasai East. The residents of the area called the police on him.

Though Shah said that the video was played accidentally, the residents claimed that the song kept playing for more than a minute. According to them, if the song was played accidentally, Shah must have stopped it as soon as he heard the lyrics.

Police claimed that while officers were patrolling the area, they heard the song loud from the salon. The song, played on a Bluetooth speaker, contained content that was against India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity, with the potential to create communal tension, police said.

Naigaon police registered a case against Shah under Section 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for acts prejudicial to national integrity, before they arrested him. Police also said that an investigation was going on to ascertain whether Shah’s act was intentional and if similar songs were played by him in the past.
