Adityanath administration launches a campaign to promote the safety of women, activating anti-Romeo squads

Lucknow: State police officials have been directed to launch a special campaign for the protection of girls on Saturday, Navratras' first day, and to activate anti-Romeo teams.

On Friday, Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chchief Secretary for Information, announced that Mission Shakti would also commence on April 10.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh since 2017, established anti-Romeo squads soon after taking office.

The sleuths generally wear plain clothes and are assigned to colleges, shopping malls, markets, parks, bus stops, train stations, markets and schools to "protect" women.

Shakti's mission is to ensure that women and girls are treated with dignity and safety.

Mr Sehgal said, "From the first day of Navratras, the Police Department will start a special campaign pertaining to women's safety. Anti-Romeo squads will be activated near schools and colleges." "In the evening, police will undertake to patrol in busy markets and crowded places," he added, stressing that the Mission Shakti will begin on April 10.

According to a government spokesperson, the chief minister has requested the Home Department to identify priorities for the government's 100-day plan.

At least 10,000 policemen will be inducted into the Police Department in 100 days under Yogi Adityanath's directive.

In a meeting held late Wednesday night, the Home Department also issued instructions for initiating harsh measures against criminals, seizing and destroying their illegal properties.

Additionally, the Chief Minister called for coordination among the intelligence department, the ATS, and the Special Task Force.

Every police station was instructed to identify the top 10 criminals.
