Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Tuesday urged opposition groups and protesters demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar not to let conspiracy theories divide them.

In a post on X, Dipke said differing responses to demonstrations had fuelled suspicion among groups pursuing the same demand. He contrasted the police response to the CJP’s October 10 protest with Monday’s demonstration by the INDIA bloc, which drew large crowds and several opposition leaders.

Dipke said the CJP faced allegations of being planted by the Bharatiya Janata Party after it received permission to protest. He argued that differences in how demonstrations were handled should not become grounds for questioning each other’s motives.

“When CJP was granted permission to protest, many were quick to float conspiracy theories that we were planted by the BJP. Yesterday, the INDIA bloc held a massive protest, but there was no crackdown like the one we witnessed on October 10,” he wrote.

“This is exactly how the govt plays us against each other. By treating different protests differently, they create suspicion and mistrust among people who are ultimately fighting for the same cause,” he added.

Dipke cautioned that authorities could allow one protest while restricting another, and later reverse their approach. He urged protesters to focus on those in power rather than suspecting fellow campaigners.

“Don’t let conspiracy theories divide us. Don’t fall into the trap of fighting among ourselves when we should be standing together,” he wrote.

“The fight is against Gyanesh Kumar and those protecting him. Don’t lose sight of that,” he added.

The remarks come as protests demanding Kumar’s resignation continue to draw opposition leaders and other groups. The CJP’s October 10 demonstration and the INDIA bloc’s Monday protest have prompted debate over the differing treatment of protesters.
