AAP MLAs barred from Delhi assembly: Atishi
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Leader of Opposition Atishi stated on Thursday that AAP MLAs were being barred from entering the Delhi Assembly premises after a three-day suspension from House proceedings. Atishi accused the BJP of "crossing all limits of dictatorship" after assuming power.
On Tuesday, AAP MLAs, led by Atishi, protested the alleged removal of B. R. Ambedkar's portrait from the CM's office. Speaker Vijender Gupta suspended 21 AAP MLAs for disrupting Lt. Governor V K Saxena's inaugural address.
In a post on X, Atishi said, “AAP MLAs were suspended from the House for three days for raising slogans of ‘Jai Bhim’. And today, they are not even being allowed to enter the Vidhan Sabha premises. This has never happened in the history of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.”
Twenty-one out of 22 AAP MLAs, including Atishi, were suspended. The suspension came as the Delhi government tabled a CAG report on the liquor policy, intensifying the AAP-BJP face-off.
Amanatullah Khan, the Okhla MLA, escaped suspension due to his absence during the protest. Minister Parvesh Verma moved the suspension motion.
The disruption began when AAP legislators shouted slogans against the alleged removal of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh's portraits from the Chief Minister's office. Speaker Vijender Gupta ordered the marshalling out of 21 MLAs.
Following their suspension, AAP MLAs demonstrated in the assembly complex, holding Ambedkar portraits. Atishi accused the BJP of trying to erase Ambedkar's legacy.
"The BJP has revealed its true colours by removing Babasaheb Ambedkar's portrait. Does it believe Prime Minister Narendra Modi can replace Babasaheb?" Atishi questioned.
