New Delhi: A total of 86 countries and two international organisations have signed the AI Impact Summit declaration, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday. Major signatories include the US, UK, Canada, China, Denmark, and Germany.

The global endorsement comes at the conclusion of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, which positioned India as a central player in international AI governance and infrastructure development.

Vaishnaw said the declaration formalises principles centred on the “welfare of all and happiness of all.” He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s human-centric AI vision, aimed at democratising AI resources so that technology, services, and facilities reach everyone in society, has been widely accepted.

“Balancing economic growth with social good is a priority. Safety, trust, and social harmony have been placed at the centre of the framework,” Vaishnaw said, adding that innovations and human capital development were key areas of thrust.

The minister emphasised that participating nations, including the US, UK, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Indonesia, and Germany, have agreed to collaborate on these objectives.

The summit also secured investment commitments exceeding USD 250 billion for infrastructure alone, with an additional USD 20 billion pledged for venture capital and deep-tech investments. Vaishnaw described the event as a “grand success,” noting that more than five lakh visitors participated in the exhibition, engaging with global experts and showcasing startup innovations.

“This Summit reflected the world’s confidence in India’s role in the emerging AI era. Participation at every level — ministerial dialogues, leaders’ plenary, and exhibitions — was phenomenal,” Vaishnaw said.

Delhi hosted a lineup of global tech leaders this week, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft President Brad Smith, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. Discussions spanned pressing topics in AI, including opportunities, risks, AGI, governance, and the future of jobs.

The India AI Impact Summit, through extensive global participation and substantial investment pledges, underscored India’s growing influence in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
