5 arrested for pamphlets warning Muslim girls against ‘saffron love-trap’ in Indore
text_fieldsBhopal: Five individuals have been arrested in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, two days after the distribution of pamphlets warning Muslim girls about a supposed "saffron love-trap." Narottam Mishra, the state's Home Minister, confirmed the arrests in a video message.
Mishra, in a video message, said: “Indore police on Friday have arrested five persons for misleading people through open letters. They have mentioned RSS in the pamphlets distributed with a wrong purpose and they all have been booked under Section 153 of the IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc).”
The individuals were apprehended by the Indore police for disseminating misleading open letters that mentioned the RSS with malicious intent. They have been charged under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.
The pamphlets, titled 'Khula Khat' (open letter), were circulated in various residential colonies in Indore and cautioned Muslim women against falling into the alleged "saffron love-trap" orchestrated by the RSS and the associated right-wing Hindu group Bajrang Dal.
The pamphlets claimed that attempts were being made to convert 10 lakhs (one million) Muslim girls into non-believers (Kafirs) and cited an incident where around 800 Muslim girls in Amravati city, Maharashtra, were supposedly subjected to forced conversion.
According to the police, the pamphlets were distributed in Muslim-dominated areas such as Khajrana, Chandan Nagar, Rawji Bazar, and Bombay Bazar in Indore. They were also shared on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The police had received specific information regarding the distribution of these pamphlets by some young individuals in Muslim-dominated areas of the city over the past few weeks.
In response to the incident, the Home Minister ordered a high-level investigation into the matter on the previous day, leading to the subsequent arrests.
