3-year-old trapped in borewell for 6th day; mothers plea for rescue

Jaipur: The mother of three-year-old Chetna, who fell into a borewell in Kotputli, Rajasthan, on Monday afternoon, has made an emotional appeal for her daughter’s rescue as efforts enter the sixth day.

Dhole Devi, the child’s mother, expressed her anguish on Saturday, pleading with the administration to act swiftly. Overcome with emotion, she urged authorities to save her daughter, describing the ongoing wait as unbearable.

Chetna’s uncle, Shubhram, voiced frustration over the lack of updates from officials, alleging that their queries were dismissed. He stated that officials responded to questions by saying, “The District Collector will provide information later.” He also criticized the District Collector for not visiting the family, describing the situation as deeply disheartening.

The child has been trapped at a depth of 150 feet in a 700-foot-deep borewell since December 23. The rescue operation has been ongoing but remains fraught with challenges. By Saturday morning, teams had successfully welded a casing pipe, a vital step to stabilize the borewell. The next phase involves digging an 8-foot horizontal tunnel at a 90-degree angle to reach Chetna.

Rescue teams have deployed fans, lights, oxygen, and cutter machines inside the borewell to assist with the operation. Meanwhile, for safety and logistical reasons, the administration has restricted media access to the site.

Community members and the family have criticized the delay in exploring alternative rescue plans. Observers argue that implementing Plan B alongside the primary strategy might have sped up the rescue process.

Despite the setbacks and criticisms, rescue teams are continuing their efforts around the clock. Officials remain cautiously optimistic, expressing hope for a successful outcome. The local community has rallied around the family, offering support as they await news of the young girl's safe return.
