New Delhi: In Canada's South Vancouver, a 24-year-old Indian student was shot dead inside a car. According to the Vancouver Police, the student was identified as Chirag Antil, and he was found dead inside the vehicle in the area following neighbours reporting gunshots, NDTV reported.

Police said that officers were called to East 55th Avenue and Main Street around 11 pm on April 12, following the gunshots that were fired and which were heard by the neighbours. No arrests have been made so far, and an investigation is ongoing.

According to Chirag's brother Ronit, the former seemed happy when he called him on the phone in the morning. The deceased took his car to go somewhere, and he was shot dead.

The National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student's wing of the Congress party, posted on X, tagging the Ministry of External Affairs and requesting assistance for the deceased's family.

"Urgent attention regarding the murder of Chirag Antil, an Indian student in Vancouver, Canada. We urge the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the progress of the investigation and ensure that justice is swiftly served," the post read. "Additionally, we request the ministry to extend all necessary support and assistance to the family of the deceased during this difficult time,"

Local media reported that Chirag's family is raising money through the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to bring his body back to India. According to Romit, his deceased brother was a kind-hearted person.

He said that he had a great relationship with his brother, and they used to talk every day, "day and night". He spoke to him last before the incident happened, and he was "happy, he never had any issues or fights with anyone, ever". Chirag was an extremely polite person, Romit said.

It was in September 2022 that Chirag came to Vancouver. He had just finished his MBA at the University of Canada West and got his work permit recently.
