2-km crater forms in Rajasthan village as heavy rains batter state
text_fieldsJaipur: A 2 km long ditch has formed in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur village following heavy rains in the area.
The100 feet wide and 55 feet deep ditch that stands over acres of farm land was formed after the Surwal dam overflowed.
The water from across the fields flows into the ditch, creating a waterfall of sorts, toppling two houses, two shops and two temples.
With the water flowing over fields, the Jadawata village faced the havoc.
As the situation worsened, the houses nearby the area have been evacuated with administration constantly monitoring the situation and the army and relief forces are stationing in the area.
Local MLA and Minister Karodi Lal Meena who visited the area directed the officials to divert water using machines.
However the villagers said that it would be almost impossible to stop soil erosion.
Heavy rains in the state have left several villages submerged and many remains to be cut off.
Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur and Jhalawar have suffered most from the rains with large number of houses collapsing and people seeking relief camps.
The army and the national and state disaster relief forces are continuing rescue operations.
