New Delhi: Footage showed two lions straying into a residential area in Gujarat and nearly getting into fight with two dogs, NDTV reported.

Dogs and lions, separated by a gate, faced off at a cowshed in Savarkundla in Gujarat's Amreli on Sunday night.

Savarkundla sits some 70 kilometres from the famous Gir National Park, known for Asiatic lions.

The footage caught on CCTV helped residents know about the presence of lions in the area.

It showed two lions getting near the cowshed but they suddenly had to encounter two dogs.

Separated by an iron gate, the four animals were seen slamming the gate and were unable to attack each other.

Just seconds before a man came out of the house to know what was happening there, the two lions fled the scene.

The man flashed his torch to see if anything was wrong in the bushes, before returning to lock the gates.

Though there is no official statement on sighting of the lions, it is said the lions may have strayed out of a reserve forest area.

The incident reported a day after Gujarat celebrated World Lion Day to spread awareness about big cats.

The day was marked with awareness campaign, students’ rallies, and drawing competitions.

The 2020 census recorded a population of 674 Asiatic lions in Gujarat.
