New Delhi: India today welcomed 183 students evacuated from war-torn Ukraine after growing concerns about the plight of Indian students.

The Union Minister Bhupender Yadav said 2,200 Indians are expected to land in India today in support of Operation Ganga, India's evacuation campaign for its citizens.

"The government is leaving no stone unturned in bringing back its citizens from the conflict zone", tweeted the Minister.

Indian students have been pleading through multiple channels for an immediate ceasefire to rescue them from the raging war, and the foreign ministry yesterday said it has "firmly pressed" the Russian and Ukrainian governments to do so.

There was also a claim that the ministry and Indian embassies are in regular contact with the students, who have been pleading desperately and emotionally to be evacuated from the conflict-stricken region.

As of Saturday afternoon (local time), all Indian nationals were evacuated from the Ukrainian city of Pisochyn, according to the Indian Embassy in Kyiv.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced on Saturday that 13,300 people had returned to India from Ukraine so far using 63 flights operated under Operation Ganga, and that 15 flights had landed in the last 24 hours carrying approximately 2,900 people.

In recent days, videos of Indian students stranded in Ukraine's Sumy city have been shared claiming they have decided to take a risky journey to the Russian border, 50 km away.

They claimed to be recording their "last video" from Sumy, and they urged the Indian government and its embassy in Ukraine to take responsibility if anything happened to them.

Following contact with the embassy, the students have decided against leaving.

Hundreds of Indians remain in conflict zones in eastern Ukraine - 700 in Sumy and 300 in Kharkiv - the government said on Friday, adding that organizing buses to evacuate them represents the biggest challenge.
